It was time. The binkies had to go. Last Friday we took William to the Shops at La Cantera in San Antonio. We brought every binky that we could find in our house. We told William that it was time for the binkies to go away. We let William hold and suck on all of the binkies for the entire ride to the shops and while we waited at the playground in the middle of the shops for my grandparents and aunt to meet us. Here are William's last moments with the loves of his life.
Next we went to Build a Bear and let William pick out a stuffed animal to make. Here he is with the monkey of his choice.
The he stepped on the pedal to fill the monkey with stuffing.
Next he placed all of his binkies inside the monkey.
Then he watched as the our friendly monkey builder sewed up the monkey forever.
Next William and Daddy registered the new Monkey.
After that relatively easy experience, we went to the food court for lunch where William convinced Aunt Diana to pay for him to ride every little ride in the place.
It has been a rough few days - no naps - late nights - lots of tired crying, but it won't be long before he learns to fall asleep without a binky. It broke our hearts to take them away. I didn't actually think Chad was going to make it. I'm not sure if I am going to make it now that naps are such a battle. He used to run to the bed at naptime because he knew it meant he could have a binky. Now he has no desire to sleep, but he is keeping the Monkey pretty close by.
P.S. William just walked in and looked at the last picture. He told me the baby (he recognizes himself, but still refers to himself as baby - easier to say than William) was sad for his binkies. Poor thing.

That is so pitiful! But what a GREAT idea! :) Hang in there!
Tell William to come see me and I'll teach him to suck his thumb, just like Amy taught his daddy when Mary Ann took away HIS binkies!
What a good idea- I'm sorry it's been a rough transition though.
Binkies make the world go round. Is it bad that I want a binky now?
Haley - that is such a cute and creative idea!! Can't wait to see the update on how its going in a few weeks at Thanksgiving! :O)
