Helicopters

William is obsessed with planes, trains, trucks, and especially helicopters. Living in a rural community of elderly people, insurance is actually sold up here specifically for life flight. If you need to get to a doctor or hospital, they come get you. We see that helicopter all the time. Today we actually watched it meet an ambulance at the park to take someone to San Antonio or Austin (I'm guessing). All of that to say we spend alot of time talking about helicopters. Every since Will learned to say helicopter, he has hollered it every time he sees one (often minutes before we ever spot it). Here is the weird part, he has also been hollering it every time he sees a landing pad - even if it is on the top of a hospital and we are way down on the street and even if it is empty. At first I thought maybe he was just saying it when we passed our hospitals, but the he did it in a few other cities. We were blown away. He wasn't saying it for every building, just the ones that helicopters actually land on. After months of trying to figure out how he was doing this, Chad solved the riddle. We passed a rural landing pad, way outside of town, that was just really smooth dirt. When Will yelled helicopter, Chad finally made the connection that he was saying it every time he saw the windsock that serves as a marker to the pilots and people meeting the helicopter. Somehow Will had made the connection long before we ever did. Aren't kids AMAZING? I took a picture of the windsock at the Fredericksburg Airport just to show you what I was talking about.
