A Day in the Life...

Last night we went on a mini-retreat with the youth group to a really cool bed and breakfast in Grapetown (not really a town, just a tiny old school). I debated riding out there with the kids or taking my own car, but of course I got lazy and William and I hitched a ride out with the group. This morning when William managed to wedge a huge splinter under his pinky nail and down his finger, I realized that having my own car would have been nice. We had to get driven into Fredericksburg and go to minor emergency to have his hand numbed and this giant hunk of wood removed. He was a trooper, but screamed through much of the very painful process. We then came home and took a three hour nap (all three of us). After our nap, we decided a trip to Chili's was in order. At Chili's William managed to remove one of his shoes and shove it up and into the booth where no one could retrieve it. So we got to bring our swollen handed, half barefoot child home crying about his lost racecar shoe. We thought that would be the end to our adventurous day until William decided that maybe he should chug a little motrin and then pour the rest of the bottle out all over the bathroom and himself so that mommy and daddy could have a heart attack before bedtime. One phone call to poison control later, we found out that there isn't enough Motrin in the bottle to cause anything serious and another trip to the e.r. was avoided...at least for now. Can you imagine this child as a teenager?
